Budget 2026 made no change to personal income-tax slabs, rebate or standard deduction for FY 2026-27. Marginal relief near the ₹12 lakh rebate limit and surcharge marginal relief are applied. Employer NPS (80CCD(2)) is deductible up to 14% of salary in the new regime and 10% in the old regime (14% for government employers). Special-rate incomes (capital gains etc.) are not modelled. Total income and tax are rounded to the nearest ₹10.
EPF: Source: Ministry of Labour & Employment — Cabinet approves higher EPFO wage ceiling (₹15,000 → ₹25,000 from 17 Sep 2026); EPF Scheme 1952 (12% employee + 12% employer) · Last verified: Verified
Many employers compute PF on the statutory wage ceiling; others contribute 12% of full basic. The calculator lets you pick either.
Worked example: ₹12 lakh CTC
With 50% basic and PF on the ₹25,000 wage ceiling, the employer PF is ₹36,000, so gross salary is ₹11,64,000. Under the new regime the taxable income is ₹10,89,000 after the ₹75,000 standard deduction, which is within the ₹12 lakh rebate limit, so the income tax is nil. After your own PF (₹36,000) and Maharashtra professional tax (₹2,500), in-hand is about ₹93,800 a month.
Frequently asked questions
Is salary up to ₹12.75 lakh tax-free in FY 2026-27?
Under the new regime, total income up to ₹12,00,000 gets a full rebate (up to ₹60,000). A salaried person also gets the ₹75,000 standard deduction, so salary up to about ₹12.75 lakh has no income tax. Just above the limit, marginal relief applies: the tax cannot exceed the income above ₹12 lakh.
Why is my in-hand lower than CTC ÷ 12?
CTC includes the employer’s PF share (and sometimes gratuity), which you do not receive monthly. From the gross salary, your own PF (12% of PF wage), professional tax and income tax (TDS) are deducted.
Which regime should I choose?
The new regime has lower rates but almost no deductions. The old regime can win if you claim large HRA, 80C, 80D, home-loan interest and NPS deductions. This calculator shows both side by side with your numbers.
Is professional tax deductible?
Under the old regime, professional tax paid is deducted from salary income. Under the new regime it is not deductible, but it is still cut from your salary.
Are surcharge and cess included?
Yes. Health and education cess at 4% is added, and surcharge applies above ₹50 lakh with marginal relief. Under the new regime surcharge is capped at 25%.
